Pakistan: Crime on the Rise in ICT

ISLAMABAD - The federal capital witnessed an alarming increase in incidents of robbery, car-theft and cheque-fraud, with Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police registering eight robbery, seven car-theft and seven cheque-fraud cases in the last week alone.

ICT police told Pakistan Today that they had registered two cases of murder last week, while the week before last, they had registered three cases of murder, two cases of robbery, six cases of car-theft and seven cases of cheque-fraud.

Shalimar police station registered three cases of robbery and three cases of car-theft in the last week. Similarly, Margalla police station registered two cases of car-theft and a case of cheque-fraud in the last week. Two people were killed by unidentified assailants, a house was robbed and a car was stolen from the Koral police precincts last week while in the week before last, no significant cases were reported.

Four robbery, one case each of car-theft and mobile phone snatching and two cases of cheque-fraud were registered with Sabzi Mandi police station. Kohsar police station registered seventeen cases of cheque-fraud, three cases of robbery and three cases of car-theft in past few weeks.

Abpara police station registered one case each of robbery and cheque-fraud and Bhara Kahu police station registered one case each of robbery, car-theft and cheque-fraud in the last week. One incident each of robbery and cheque-fraud were reported at Sihala police station in the last week while in the week before last, two men were killed in the area.

A police source said residents of rural areas including Bhara Kahu, Sihala, Tarnol and Sbazi Mandi had lodged several complaints regarding the high crime rate in their areas but the police, to show a good record to their high officials, were not registering numerous robbery, theft and burglary cases.
