Azerbaijan Participates in Discussion of ICT Role in Socio-Economic Development of the Planet

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Within the forum on execution of solutions of World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) starting today Azerbaijan participates in discussion of ICT role in socio-economic development of the planet.

Azerbaijan Communications and Information Technologies Ministry reports that at the event the country will be represented by Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizadeh.

The forum organized by UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP is ICT society’s largest annual forum presenting special UNO organizations, governments , civil society and organizations of ICT area.

The forum has a major focus on discussion of information-technologies’ role in socio-economic development of the planet .

The event gives wide opportunities for participation in multi-sided discussions for realization of solutions of World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) the first stage of which was held in Geneva (10-12 December 2003), second stage in Tunis (16-18 November 2005) and became the key event for the world community at the start of the third millennium marking transition from industrial society to information society.

Elmir Velizadeh will make a speech at the high-level session devoted to partnership and cooperation to achieve WSIS’s targets till 2015 and set the tone to all discussions and interactive sessions at the forum.

Along with consideration of issues on implementation of tasks to achieve WSIS’s targets there will be held interactive discussion and sharing information on a large number of topics. The forum will last till 20 May.
