Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari Thursday said that the government is preparing to introduce merge policy for banks and financial institutions in the upcoming new budget.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by Revenue Administration Training Center in Lalitpur, Adhikari said that though the bank merger policy has been administrated in the current fiscal year budget, the policy could not be functional properly.
Adhikari also said the government is preparing to introduce a favourable merger policy for the development of the banking sector.
He also said the merger policy would be helpful in discouraging bad practices in the banking sector and to make this sector competitive in the international market.
Speaking on the occasion, Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Yuba Raj Khatiwada said the bank merger policy is necessary for reducing overheads in the banks.
