The country’s Chief Executive said that the 3D map would help the government identify the places in the country that are prone to flooding or are vulnerable to other forms of natural calamities.
“One of our proposals is the development of a comprehensive 3-D mapping of the whole Philippines” the President said in a speech during the inauguration of the Improved Agno River Flood Forecasting and Warning System and the new Agno River Flood Forecasting and Warning Center on Friday in Barangay Tumana in Rosales, Pangasinan.
“With this mapping project, our perspective of every corner of the country will widen, resulting in an improved capability to know which areas are vulnerable to floods.”
“This would also help us a lot in terms of notifying our citizens in advance for impending floods and other calamities, and would also save previous lives, properties, and livelihood of people” Aquino said.
Aquino added that the Philippines is located in a geo-hazard area with 66 provinces predisposed to natural disasters. “I think it’s only right that we allot sufficient funds to protect them,” he said.
