“The world has not fully digested the consequences of the recent economic crisis, the founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF) said Wednesday, warning that decision-makers must guard against the social impact. ‘We are in the past crisis situation – we haven't really digested all the consequences of the crisis of the last two to three years,’ said Klaus Schwab. ‘We have to be careful that this crisis does not become a social crisis – which it has in some countries,’ he noted….” [Agence France Presse/Factiva]
People’s Daily adds that “… ‘The shifts of political and economic power from West to East and from North to South as well as the speed of technological innovation have created a completely new reality,’ said Schwab. Global systems and decision models can no longer cope with the speed and complexity of all these changes, Schwab said….” [People’s Daily (China)]
Reuters writes that “…in a report last week, the WEF identified three interrelated nexuses of risks -- economic, such as fiscal, trade and currency problems; raw materials, particularly the impact of rising energy costs and dwindling water supplies on food prices; and illegal trade, corruption and failed states….WEF Chief Business Officer Robert Greenhill said the Forum will try to help with the complex of threats by launching a ‘global risk response network’ bringing together company risk officers and government policy-makers….” [Reuters/Factiva]
