The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) announced the opening of multicultural education information website (www.damunwha-edu.or.kr) on November 16, 2010, which was designed to provide various materials and research papers for students and parents from multicultural families, teachers of the students from multicultural families and researchers.
With the recent surge in the number of students from multicultural families, there has been a growing need and volume of research related to the multicultural education. Thus far, the data or documents related to multicultural education were scattered in various organizations including government organizations, regional education offices and research institutes, making it inconvenient for users to acquire the materials or data they need. Now that the multicultural education web portal is in place, the users can access the information they need just by visiting this website.
The web portal categorized the information on multicultural education by user, including teachers, students, parents and researchers, so as to improve user convenience.
Up to 800 types of data are uploaded on the website, including the manuals and training materials for teachers, learning/teaching materials, reports on research schools and best practices, analysis tools, materials for Korean language education and other multicultural education, research materials, etc. This data will continue to be updated with the agreement of the institutions producing the data.
MEST plans to offer the information on the website in various languages in the future such as Chinese and Vietnamese and strengthen the web portal’s communication function so that it may serve as the platform for an open discussion on multicultural education.
