New Delhi, Dec 9 (PTI) The government is planning an investment of USD six billion in the ICT sector to improve the outreach of higher education in a more equitable way across the country.
In a press release, Higher Education Secretary Vibha Puri Das said that soon about 14 Innovation Universities would be set up to prepare the youngsters to drive the country to higher economic growth.
Stating that gender disparity in terms of access to higher education is a grave concern, she said the government is working hard to increase the gross enrolment ratio (GER) from present pitiable 12.4 per cent to at least 20 per cent next decade.
The GER in UK is more than 43 per cent, while it is above 30 in Brazil.
The government is also planning a separate line of credit for educational institutions and individual students to improve access to higher education for youths, she added.
