A communication Web portal will offer its services in Indonesian to help protect the rights of Indonesian immigrants in Korea, Seoul’s anticorruption watchdog said Thursday. According to the Anticorruption and Civil Rights Commission, their online service ― which accepts petitions, suggestions, discussion of government policies and corruption reporting ― will use the language as a way of promoting Korea’s multicultural society. E-people, which already offers services in English, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Mongolian, will offer filing and responses in both Korean and Indonesian. Along with this, the ACRC and Indonesian ombudsman will follow up on their memorandum of understanding to protect the interests of about 27,000 Indonesians in Korea, including immigrant workers and multicultural families. “We plan on continuously expanding our foreign language petition counters to provide services for more foreigners,” said a watchdog official. The service is connected with 43 central and 246 local government agencies. They are also networked with foreign diplomatic missions here and Korean embassies abroad.
