Internet users in Southeast Asia are shifting away from desktop PCs, according to Tommaso Del Re, head of mobile and business development of Yahoo Southeast Asia.
"The next wave of Internet users in the region will be predominantly from mobile devices," he added.
He was speaking at the Telecom Transformation Asia Pacific 2010 forum hosted by research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands today.
Del Re said, based on Yahoo's observation, Indonesia is leading the way in the region's growing mobile Internet usage.
Communicating via social sharing features on handsets is also substantially popular across the region, according to him.
"It is important for Yahoo to create a seamless Web browsing experience between desktop and mobile," Del Re said.
Yahoo's key strategy, he said, is in partnering with telcos around the world to acquire more users and retain existing ones. "We are not going to be successful if we do not collaborate," he concluded.
