The Housing Ministry and National Land Agency (BPN) signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ease the issuing of certificates for independently built houses.
The MoU will help people obtain certificates from 2011 to 2014 for houses they built without the services of housing developers.
The Minister of Public Housing, Suharso Monoarfa, said that, as of November, only 20 percent or 700,000 out of 3.5 million independently built houses had certificates.
“The remaining 2.8 million do not have certificates,” he said, as reported by Kontan.com.
He added that the ministry and agency aimed to provide certificates for 7,500 independently built houses per year, targeting 30,000 houses by 2014.
The head of the National Land Agency, Joko Winoto, said that the MoU would improve the public housing administrative system.
“We hope that this cooperation will improve the public housing administrative system to minimize [housing] disputes,” he added.
