A national workshop on District Development Fund expansion to cover 17 provinces was held in Vientiane last Friday, October 1.

Participated by over 80 representatives of the Planning and Investment and Finance ministries, international organisations and non-governmental organisations, the workshop also provided opportunities for the participants to learn the outcome of the District Development Fund during the period 2008-2010.

The project is designed to carry out small-scale basic infrastructure development projects and strengthen capacity of local authorities in public administration and finance management, grassroots officials to ensure that they can implement the project successfully, said Ms. Bounpheng.

Over the last two years over 22 billion kip have been spent on the project implementation.

The aim of the District Development Fund is to build capacity of planning, administration, finance management and auditing for local officials to ensure the effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of local authorities.
