The Philippine President Benigno Aquino is pledging a new era of clean and efficient government, and has used his first state of nation address to condemn his predecessor's rule.
President Aquino says a Truth Commission to investigate the alleged wrongdoings of former President Gloria Arroyo will be set up this week. During his maiden speech, Mr Aquino has vowed his administration will be the opposite of the previous Arroyo government. He says he will stop the wasteful spending of public funds and abolish ill-conceived projects. He said the Arroyo administration has left his government without enough money to address areas of education, health, basic infrastructure and security.
