Muscat: Omantel recently completed an important part of its 3.5G network modernisation project with the completion of some projects and expansion of more than 180 sites in the Batinah region which will further improve quality and, consequently, the customers' experience.

The project has been implemented after additional spectrum was made available, enabling Omantel to introduce a second carrier on the 3.5G network.

Adding an additional carrier on the 3.5G network will contribute significantly to enhancing customer experience, especially those using the mobile broadband services.

Haitham Abdullah Al Kharusi, Vice-president of Omantel Consumer Business Unit, said that the company has completed the installation of more than 180 3.5G stations in the Batinah region which used to suffer network congestion previously.

This is part of a major modernisation project involving 3.5G as Omantel strives to provide its customers with the best broadband experience through the widest coverage, broadest choice and superior quality.

"At the same time, our teams are racing against time to ensure a fast roll-out of our 4G LTE network which will have the widest 4G coverage in the Sultanate as the company completed the installation of more than 460 base stations," Al Kharusi added.

"Our customers have already experienced significant improvement in the 3.5G speeds in areas where work has already been completed. Plans are underway to cover more governorates in the near future as part of Omantel's efforts to offer customers the best broadband experience," Al Kharusi further explained.

Omantel is a pioneer in the sector, providing cutting edge telecommunication services in Oman, connecting individuals, enterprises and the government across the country through a state-of-the-art network.
