The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Bahrain has launched a service allowing citizens to apply for birth certificates for newborns online.
Users can apply for the birth certificate through the Bahrain eGoverment portal, pay all related fees online, and receive all documents in the mail. The service will reduce the processing time of birth certificate applications from four weeks to a maximum of five days.
Users will need to enter the ‘birth notification number’ supplied by the hospital, and the child’s Personal Number, sent by Bahrain’s Central Informatics Organisation (CIO) by SMS to the parents once the hospital registers the birth of the child. Parents can use these two numbers to log into the eBirth service and apply for a birth certificate.
“We are keen to improve the delivery of services offered to the public and automate work within government institutions to ensure that services are efficiently and effectively provided”, said Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, CEO of the eGovernment Authority of Bahrain (eGA), a partner in the launch.
“This is achieved today through the launch of the integrated eBirth system which reduces operating and administrative expenses, minimises the spending of public funds, and protects privacy as well as confidentiality of users. The system will also allow citizens to shorten the timeframe that could reach up to three weeks with the old conventional methods.”
The service was developed in collaboration with the eGA, the CIO and Bahrain Post. The CIO, the organisation responsible for the provision of ICT infrastructure for the government, will ensure data accuracy for this service.
The Ministry of Health also announced the launched of its new website on the same day. The updated website will offer a variety of information and detailed data of ministry services, its departments and divisions. The website also makes it easier for the public to give feedback and make enquiries.
