represented by a group of university students under the sponsorship of the Information Technology Authority (ITA), will participate in the finals of the Imagine Cup Competition organised by Microsoft in New York from July 8 to 13.
ITA will be lending support to the Omani teams who have qualified for this international competition, which is considered to be the most important student technology competition worldwide.
The competition was launched by Microsoft with the aim of stimulating the students’ imaginations and helping them release their innovative energies, so as to transform them into technological solutions capable of producing a clear and positive difference. The goal is to contribute to confronting and overcoming the challenges which our present day world is facing. Students aged 16 and above are offered the opportunity to take part in this annual competition.
This year, two teams qualified for the finals. The team ‛Brothers Forever’ is the only Arab team in the category of Digital Media, to have reached the finals of the Imagine Cup 2011. The second team ‛Help Me Educate Others’, a first-place winner in the GCC regional finals, will participate in the Software Design competition. The two teams will compete with the best qualified projects worldwide, so as to win top rankings in this competition.
The attention which ITA has been devoting to supporting and motivating students to partake in this international competition comes within the context of the endeavours to discover the talented Omani youths and provide them with care and opportunities that enable them to showcase their talents and polish their skills. Participation in such global arena will have a great impact on motivating the Omani young talents to produce innovative solutions in the field of technology.
It will also contribute to raising the level of awareness regarding the significance of use of student technology in addition to coming up with innovative technological projects that serve the Omani society. The ITA is committed to continuing to lend its support to students so that they can achieve success and prove their excellence in this significant and international IT competition.
