Top executives from the Dubai Health Authority and Dubai eGovernment will provide both opening welcome and keynote presentations respectively for the three-day Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference which opens tomorrow at the InterContinental hotel in Dubai Festival City.
His Excellency Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, the Director General of the
Dubai Health Authority, will deliver the opening welcome address and His
Excellency Ahmad Bin Humaidan, The Director General of Dubai
eGovernment, who will give the opening keynote presentation.
"We
are honoured that two such distinguished speakers will formally deliver
the opening remarks and keynote presentation at our first conference in
the UAE," said Jeremy Bonfini, HIMSS Senior Vice President, Global Services.
Also
on the first day of the conference, the Ministry of Health of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will detail its plans for the largest healthcare
modernisation in the GCC—the
digital integration of over 200 Ministry of Health Hospitals. This
presentation will be led by Mohammed R Al Yemeni, PhD, Advisor to the
Minister of Health and Supervisor of ICT, Ministry of Health, Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia.
HIMSS is a non-profit comprehensive
healthcare-stakeholder membership organisation exclusively focused on
providing global leadership for the optimal use of information
technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.
HIMSS Middle East 2010 comprises of three vertical conferences:
•
HIMSS Middle East Health IT Leadership Summit is a gathering of the
CEOs, Hospital IT directors and governmental leaders of healthcare
organisations throughout the region.
• The HIMSS Health IT Management Conference brings global best practices to the users and implementers of technology.
•
The Health Insurers Innovation Forum - in which the mHealth discussion
takes place - is in collaboration with MedicaIQ and will showcase the
greatest innovations in the global health insurance industry and tools
for consumer driven healthcare and medicine. It will also provide a
first-ever look at the health insurance industry through the lens of the
healthcare technologist and leading global innovators.
The
event has attracted some of healthcare's best known personalities and
industry experts including Fareed Lutfi, Secretary General of Emirates
Insurance Association, Dubai Holdings, rated as one of the most
influential people in the region, who will be forecasting Gulf insurance
trends and where they are headed. Lutfi is a distinguished insurance,
reinsurance and financial expert with a career spanning 25 years.
Finally
in what some delegates have described as potentially the most lively
discussion on the agenda, John Hoyt, Executive Vice President of HIMSS
Analytics will engage in an interactive discussion about whether the
region's hospitals should be assessed according to the Electronic
Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). This offers hospitals an
opportunity to voluntarily evaluate their progress towards a paper-free
environment
Participants representing some of the GCC's
leading healthcare delivery organisations, will debate the enhanced
results the EMRAM points to including fewer adverse drug events and
reduced error in healthcare systems as well as potential lower operating
costs.
"This EMRAM is a concrete step to enable hospitals to
deploy IT effectively. The key consideration we have is how to best
understand how healthcare is delivered in the Middle East and ensure we
are accurately reflecting local practice. Invaluable input and comments
will be sought from hospital leaders from around the region and they
could factor into an EMRAM roll out plan across the region," said Hoyt.
