South Africa: Women in IT (WIIT) Offers R30k Bursary
Source: IT-Web News
Source Date: Monday, January 12, 2015
Focus: ICT for MDGs
Country: South Africa
Created: Jan 12, 2015

The bursary winner will receive a bursary fund of R30 000 and a psychometric test valued at R2 500, says WIIT. The funds will not be given to winners in cash, but will be managed by a trustee on behalf of the winner.

WIIT has awarded bursaries to 14 women since 2006, and those winners have gone on to enjoy amazing careers in the IT industry, says the organisation.
According to Rasmeni, the bursary is aimed at assisting financially disadvantaged women who have chosen IT as a career.

"We still find female representation in IT is not where it should be and WIIT would like to assist women who are interested in entering the field, and also attract those who may not know where to start," says Rasmeni.

Accenture Institute for High Performance research points out the skills needed for global economic growth come from both men and women armed with advanced knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

To be considered for the WIIT bursary, applicants must submit a motivation of about 500 words explaining why they should be accepted into the programme.

They should also include details of their career aspirations and some examples of situations where they have demonstrated the knowledge and skills of someone who will succeed in the IT sector, it adds.

Motivations will be evaluated against the selection criteria by the WIIT panel, and students who are short-listed will be required to attend an interview with the panel. The evaluations and interviews will be conducted during November.

Applicants can e-mail nonceba@fizzmarketing.co.za for information. The application process will close on 21 November.
