“This is exciting news… for the first time in our many visits to provinces, we hear such news. We will also share the good news with Cabinet members,” said Minister Muthambi
She urged the provincial government to keep supporting community media and for community media to continue to play their role in developing communities.
She said working together would create a conducive environment for all South Africans.
The Minister met with both community media and government communicators to give them a platform to air their challenges and thrash out solutions.
She urged well-established community media to empower others, so that they can increase capacity and grow.

Representing community radio stations was Motheo FM Station Manager, Manko Tsoehlisi, who said one of their challenges was that it was difficult for some stations to grow because they were paying high rent for their offices.
Minister Muthambi said community radio stations should be proactive and approach municipalities for facilities.
She said in other provinces community radio stations were situated in libraries and municipal properties so that they did not spend a lot of money on rent and focussed on improving their services.
Department of Communications Provincial Director, Trevor Mokeyane, informed the Minister that, out of all five district municipalities in the province, Xhariep District Municipality was the only disrict without a community radio station.
Among other dignitaries at the Imbizo were MEC for Treasury Elzabe Rockman and Police, Roads and Transport MEC Butana Komphela.
