Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua clinched the 'Most Influential Government Personality' while Nairobi County won the highest votes in the 'Most Active County' category at the 2014 OLX Social Media awards.

At the same awards, Safaricom beat Chase Bank, Orange and Airtel to clinch the title in the 'Customer Care' category as well as the 'Overall Corporate of the Year' while Bob Collymore, CEO, Safarocom, was voted the 'Most Influential Corporate Personality' in Kenya in 2014.

The second OLK SOMA Awards saw participation of 100 nominees in 21 categories.

Martin Muli, Director, Kenya Social Media Awards shared that the 2014 edition has been a great success. "It is indeed an honor to recognize and celebrate influential personalities on social media following great participation by Kenyans in the nomination and voting processes that are major ingredients for successful awards," Muli said.

Entertainer and businessman Daniel "Churchill" Ndambuki took home the 'Overall Personality of the Year' and the 'Most Influential Media Personality of the Year' awards, making him one of the biggest winners this year.

The awards also saw Mobile platform @Ma3route recognized as the 'Most Influential SME' while Unilever' Aromat commercial was declared the 'Most Creative Campaign of the Year.'

The SOMA awards show the critical role social media plays in Kenya and calls for digital citizens to use their online influence to better the community, business and other areas of influence.

The theme for this year's Awards was "Making Social Media Work for You" speaking to the need to harness the various social media networks to grow our society.

"We look forward to expanding the SOMA Awards to broaden the categories and reward Kenyans using the online space to leave a lasting mark," Muli concluded.
