Learners were excited about moving away from the old boring methods of learning to new and exciting ways. Learners say the equipment will help them improve their learning, while some said it will improve their knowledge of the world.

Speaking at the handover of the computers, on Tuesday morning, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi commended Anglo American for the donation.

He called on other private sector companies to partner with government in investing in education.

“Our schools should be different from the schools in the apartheid era. We have to move to speciality schools,” he said. Speciality schools focus specifically on Maths and Science, among others, such as the Dinaledi schools.

Lesufi said it was time for schools to be different and share resources.

School Principal, Solomon Mawela told SAnews they are grateful for the donation.

“This is going to help our learners understand computers much better. It will ensure a better education,” he said.

Anglo American representative Bheki Khumalo said as a company they have an obligation to plough back to communities. “We want to invest in the education of our people,” he said.
