“We are excited that the matric class of 2013 improved the provincial pass rate from the 79,5% of 2012 to 87,2%. They have served as role models for the class of 2014, which should aim to beat this remarkable improvement and record," said Modise.
"The office of the premier will allocate R61 million towards bursaries for the top learners...”
She said the province should aim for the top position next year. She also urged the business community to join the provincial government in awarding bursaries to top performing matrics who wish to study as chartered accountants, town planners, financial experts and civil and mining engineers.
All of the province’s four district municipalities received a pass rate of more than 80%.
Ngaka Modiri Molema was the top performing district with a pass rate of 90,4%, followed by Bojanala Platinum with a pass rate of 87,31%, while Dr Kenneth Kaunda district obtained 86,79% and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati got 82,97%.
