Maloyi also congratulated the selfless and committed men and women, who volunteered at the department to conduct a socio-economic study around Extension 39. He gave the volunteers certificates of recognition.
The study revealed a high rate of unemployment and influx from rural to urban areas, among others.
The launch was attended by 1 500 people from Extension 39 and the surrounding area, who said they were looking forward for the completion of the project so more housing options can be available to them.
Maloyi also used the platform to send his condolences to the family of a young woman, who was allegedly raped and murdered by the man (known as “Hammer Man”), who continues to terrorise communities around Mahikeng/Mmabatho.
“As government, we will not rest until this capital city is safe to reside in … We have a constitutional mandate to protect our community. That’s the reason we … launched Community Safety Forums across the province to work with the police to fight crime,” said Maloyi.
