The Republic of China (Taiwan) is to help the Gambia government to establish its first Digital Opportunity Centre to the tune of US$102,000.
According to a release issued by the government, the centre is to serve as a one-stop-shop training centre in the area of science and technology, and other ICT-related disciplines.
The establishment of the Digital Opportunity Centre is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure (MOICI) and the Institute for Information Industry (III) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) signed on Tuesday, the release said.
According to the pro-government Daily Observer newspaper, the permanent secretary at the MOICI, Nancy Nyang, and the Taiwanese ambassador to the Gambia, Samuel Chen respectively signed on behalf of their two countries.
According to the release, the MOU will reflect the cooperation between the Gambia and Taiwan and also promote the future cooperation in the ICT industry between the two countries.
It is also expected that both sides will set up a regular time schedule for workshops as well as mutual visits and government-level cooperation plans about ICT issues.
Ambassador Chen said the signing of the MoU is meant to promote cooperation between the two countries in information, communication and technology.
Ms Nyang, noted that this cooperation is not the first between the Gambia and Taiwan, and paid tribute to Ambassador Chen, for coming to their aid in the field of technology.
The deputy permanent secretary at MOICI, Malik Jones, said the MOU covers ICT services and technical resources solutions with identified partners for development, including e-Government workshops and trainings and e-Government consulting services.
