Health MEC Hope Papo on Monday said since last week Thursday, the hospital had been interviewing Medical Officers, Registrars and Anaesthesiologists Specialists to replace those who have resigned.
“Hospital management is also negotiating with Senior Registrars, who passed their exams last week in Cape Town, to stay on and complete their training time at CMJAH.
“Following being registered as specialists in December 2013, they will be offered work at CMJAH. Three of them have shown willingness to continue working at the hospital,” said Papo.
In an effort to retain staff with critical skills, Papo added, the department had various programmes, including Occupation Specific Dispensation.
“The hospital is complementing these by ensuring the participation of staff with critical skills in decision making, particularly in their areas of competence. [It is also] ensuring that the equipment they require for their work is acquired and where possible, they are involved in research and the development of their competency areas.”
Toilet paper shortage at Tembisa Hospital resolved
The department also announced that the matter of shortage of toilet paper at Tembisa Hospital in Ekurhuleni has been resolved.
Contrary to media reports, the department said the challenge was not caused by its inability to pay suppliers, but the company contracted to deliver toilet paper could not meet the demand.
“Another company has since been contracted and they delivered sufficient stock last Friday afternoon and this has been distributed to all service areas in the hospital.
“The department apologises for any inconvenience caused, but assures the community that the healthcare of patients was not compromised during this period.”
