“Challenges range from lack of textbooks and poor infrastructure to insufficient and low quality teachers and lack of leadership skills. Addressing our education crisis requires a critical and creative approach that acknowledges the complexity of the problem.”
“All too often the primary drivers of effective education, teachers, are left out of the conversation,” she adds. “The enormity of the crisis weighs heavily on teachers and often their successes are unsung, leaving them feeling deflated and de-motivated.”
The Inspired Teachers Conference aims to redress this by celebrating teachers who light up a classroom. The first conference of the year, the Polokwane programme features award winning teachers and principals leading a conversation on leadership, technology, innovation and creativity in the classroom. “The conference is solution-oriented and focuses on the positive,” says Edelstein.
Christine Scrooby, Riverbank Primary Education described her experience as a participant in 2012: “It’s the best conference I have been on as an educator. I came away feeling totally inspired,”
Edelstein said they were delighted to have Standard Bank as a partner in taking the conference to Polokwane. “We are proud to be involved with the Inspired Teachers Conference,” said Mita Koebe, provincial head of Standard Bank Limpopo. “Education is at the heart of developing our nation, and if we can help to inspire teachers to uplift our youth, then we are excited to be part of such an important initiative.”
The conference is on Friday 22 March 2013 at Mitchell House, Polokwane, Limpopo from 8:30 am for 9am until 3pm. Call Lizzy Mafalo on (011) 880-9749 for further information.
