Kenya is expected to be feted next week for tremendous performance in public administration.
The country is among four others nominated for the 6th African Association of Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) Awards. The others are Ghana, Mauritius and South Africa.
AAPAM secretary-general GK Scott said the awards ceremony would be held on November 14, during the organisation’s annual round table conference in Zanzibar.
Mr Scott and AAPAM's head of finance and administration Samson Mugwe Mwangi said Kenya deserved accolades for doing well in public administration.
“The reforms in Kenya’s public administration are good,” Mr Scott said at his office in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Women empowerment
Mr Scott named rationalisation of salaries in the public sector, the inclusion of public administration as part of Kenya’s efforts to be a middle level industrialised country by 2030 and the public service code of conduct and ethics as other areas where Kenya has excelled.
“The initiative to make public service offices corruption free zones is an idea which many African countries should emulate,” he added. Kenya was also commended for paving the way for more women to take up public service jobs, e-government and performance contracting.
Mr Scott named Ghana, South Africa and Rwanda as other countries that were doing well in public administration in Africa.
Public Service permanent secretary Titus Ndambuki will lead Kenya’s delegation to the AAPAM conference in Zanzibar under the theme “Performance Management for Improving Public Service Delivery in Africa.”
Kenya School of Government boss Margaret Kobia is among those slated to address the November 12 to November 16 meeting.
