During the handover ceremony, Executive Mayor Lawrence Mapoulo, emphasised that access to sanitation facilities is a basic human right that safeguards health and human dignity. “Every individual deserves to be protected from disease and other health hazards posed by the poor disposal of human waste”, he said. He stated that children, who are among the most vulnerable to such hazards, deserve a quality sanitation delivery, better environment and the highest standard of living possible.
“And may I stress that sanitation is as much about the protection of water quality and the environment as it is about the recognition of human dignity and good health”, Mapoulo added. He explained that the two trucks have sufficient capacity to serve many villages and communities should contact their local municipalities if and when their toilets are full.
