The management of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in collaboration with the DANIDA Fellowship, on Monday began a management training programme for Women and Public Sector Procurement Managers.

The programme dubbed: “Public Sector Procurement Management” and “Women in Management” is a two-week programme for thirty-seven managers comprising 22 Women in Management and 15 participants from the Public Sector Procurement.

Dr Nii Noi Ashong, Deputy Rector of GIMPA, speaking at the opening ceremony, said the programme would improve the operational effectiveness of managers in the country.

He said the programme was in line with GIMPA’s commitment to nurture and build capacity to meet local and international challenges.

The Deputy Rector said the training programme would broaden the outlook of participants in developing personal strategies to meet their needs and achieve peak performance as managers in the public sector.

Dr Ashong said the Institute was bringing together management experts at various levels and from different fields to share knowledge and experience with all participants.

Mrs Helle Jorgensen, Training Advisor for the DANIDA Fellowship said her outfit collaborated with GIMPA because the Institute was already training professionals in governance and leadership.

She said the learning process would engage participants through lectures, visits, field trips, group discussions and presentation of action plans.

Mrs Jorgensen said the knowledge gained from the discussions would be shared by participants in their various organisations so it could contribute to sustainable development in the country.

Dr Afua Kufuor, Director at the Office of International Programmes at GIMPA said the Institute organized the first training programme for participants in May 2011 in Governance and Leadership, adding that the management training for Women would respond to their needs, especially those in the public sector.

She said participants would be taken through practical sessions such as women in leadership, developing effective networks, awareness of gender issues in management, team building, advocacy and grant proposal writing.

The DANIDA Fellowship Centre (FC) is a self-governing institution funded by DANIDA which implemented and administered the Fellowship Programme.

The FC receives about 800 fellows every year and carries out a number of tasks in connection with activities including research in Denmark.
