The Minister said that the Green paper will henceforth serve as a working document for further consultations in order to move towards a consolidated MID Policy. If sustainable development is to become a reality in Mauritius all stakeholders must work towards the concretization of the MID concept, he said. According to Mr. Virahsawmy the MID project will help the country produce at least 35% of its renewable energy needs by 2025. Presently, Mauritius has already reached 20% of its production of renewable energy.
The Minister pointed out that MID should be the concern of each and every member of the population. On this score, he expressed the wish to have regular meetings with the media so as to keep all countrymen informed about this important project. Mr. Virahsawmy further stated that the Green Paper is intended to further stimulate discussion and input. Making it available to all and anyone who wish to read it actually testifies to the transparency of the process.
The Green Paper is now open for public consultation and is available at the Resource Centre of the Ministry and in all the Municipalities and District Councils. Members of the public are invited to submit their views and comments by 8th May 2011 at latest.
