Furthermore, the South African Chamber of Commerce (SACCI) congratulated South Africans on the elections. SACCI president, Mr Chose Choeu congratulated the public as well as political parties following last Wednesday's fair, free and peaceful municipal elections. He said "This is indicative of the democratic progress that the country is experiencing" adding that the new office bearers as well as councillors face a challenging five years with considerable pressure on them to improve service delivery at local government level.

South Africa Local Government Elections South Africa held its 3rd Local government Elections on the 18th May 2011 The election were declared free and fair by many of the observers including AU and observers from countries such as Tanzania Mozambique and Kenya The South African Cabinet has commended the Independent Electoral Commission IEC for the overall management of the elections and the voters for coming out in their numbers to exercise their democratic rights The increase in voter turnout demonstrated a deepening of South African democracy and an understanding by South Africans of their role in enhancing our constitutional democracy
