With a view to ensuring that all registered South Africans have enabling documents to allow them to cast their votes, Minister Dlamini Zuma will also on Monday visit Gugulethu and Masiphumele in Houtbay to deliver IDs to people whose IDs were destroyed as result of natural disasters and fire.
Deputy Minister Chohan and other officials in the department will also deliver IDs to those affected by natural disasters in the communities of Khayelitsha, Cape Winelands, and the Hillside informal settlement in Grabouw.
With a view to ensuring all South Africans have IDs, the department will on Wednesday be implementing a comprehensive plan to ensure it supports the IEC to discharge its mandate of delivering free, fair and credible local government elections.
Minister Dlamini Zuma, Deputy Minister Chohan and the management of the department have encouraged all South Africans to exercise their right to vote on Wednesday, 18 May 2011.
