Inauguration of a New Building for the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture

It is to be recalled that the foundation stone of the building was laid on 12 September 1998 by Mr. Nelson Mandela, former President of the Republic of South Africa during his visit to Mauritius, in the presence of the Prime Minister. The Centre which was formerly known as the African Cultural Centre became operational in October 1986.

The objectives of the Centre are to preserve and promote African and Creole arts and culture and to collect, publish and disseminate information with respect to the African and Creole arts and culture. The Centre also organises lectures, seminars, workshops, exhibitions and any other activities leading to a better understanding of the African and Creole arts and culture.
