The Competition Commission has launched a formal investigation into possible collusion  by the country’s major listed construction firms into 65 bid-rigging cases in the sector, involving more than 70 projects valued at R29 billion.

"SAFCEC supports the processes underway with the Competition Commission to reach finality in the shortest possible time so that the construction industry can move forward in a more transparent and equitable environment, and continue to meaningfully contribute to the delivery of infrastructure and related services to the broader society," SAFCEC said.

The federation said its members are also guided by their own company codes of conduct in their engagement in construction procurement activities and in their dealings with each other.

"SAFCEC encourages its affected members to cooperate fully with the Competition Commission.
