The parade included a colourful assortment of musicians, dancers and performers. The streets were buzzing with appreciative residents and visitors, who were all clearly feeling the festive season spirit already. It was easily the most festive night in the Mother City since the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
A star-studded concert took place outside Cape Town Station during the afternoon, and included performances from the Gang of Instrumentals, Kurt Darren and Freshlyground.
Kurt Darren congratulated Cape Town for its role in hosting such a successful World Cup earlier this year. He then told the audience: “I think 2011 is going to be Cape Town’s best year ever.”
He called on stage one of his good friends, Springbok rugby star Bryan Habana, who moved to Cape Town this year to play for Western Province and the Stormers. Habana said: “My first year in Cape Town has been one of the best of my life. Thanks so much!”
Cape Town promises fun-filled events during the festive season.
