CAFRAD Conference on "Enhancing the Capacity of Leaders of African Parliaments"
CAFRAD is organizing a Conference on “Enhancing the Capacity of Leaders of African Parliaments for more Astute Legislation” to assess the performance challenges of the legislature and to empower the parliamentarians for a higher competence in the discharge of their legislative duties for the development of Africa. The Conference will be held in Rabat (Morocco) from 20 to 22 May 2013.

New Dialogue About Security in Africa
The New Security Foundation, in partnership with the Government of Kenya, has launched a new initiative to involve business in a major dialogue about modern security and its implications for commerce, industry and investment in Africa. 'Usalama ni Harambee', the Africa Forum on Business and Security, will take place from 13-14 September, 2012, at the LAICO Regency Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

8th Pan-African Forum on the Modernization of Public Service and State Institutions
The African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development (CAFRAD) is organizing the 8th Pan-African Forum on the Modernization of Public Service and State Institutions in Saïdia, Morocco from 25-26 June 2012. The main objective of the forum is to examine the strategies and policies to be set up in African countries in order to transform, innovate and modernize the whole public administration, governance and the state, so that countries can accelerate their development.

50th Meeting of the Governing Board of CAFRAD
Ministers of public service representing all member states of CAFRAD, as well representatives of regional and international organizations will meet to discuss the strategic plan for the centre and its financial capability. The theme of conference: common challenges - common solutions: commonwealth, commerce and Ubuntu, all these issues expressed in this theme, are resonant with the Singapore Declaration of Common Principles which the sovereign governments committed to in 1971. These principles are, among others, human rights, socio-economic justice, good governance, rule of law, egalitarianism and peace.

South Africa: Primary Health Care (PHC) Re-Engineering Provincial Task Team Established to Provide Leadership and Review Progress
Functional coordinating structures of Primary Health Care (PHC) re-engineering are in place at Districts and Sub-Districts. The North West PHC re-engineering costed plan has been developed to implement the three streams, i.e. School Health services, Specialist team, and Ward based outreach teams. Training has been standardised by National and phase one which is orientation and basic foundation, is provided by a contracted service provider and funded through conditional grants. Speaking during his budget speech, MEC Magome Masike said that PHC Re-engineering communication strategy is already in place. “We have started marketing the programme through community dialogues where 18 sub-districts participated. We will further strengthen social mobilisation through community dialogues, ward and cluster meetings, the media and other marketing initiatives” said MEC Masike.

South Africa: The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Offers Free Grants
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) will in the near future start dishing out free money to youth entrepreneurs. Briefing the media in Johannesburg yesterday, NYDA chairman Yershen Pillay said grant finance will range between R1000 and R100000. "The NYDA will no longer be offering loan finance to young entrepreneurs. "Instead there will be grant finance in the form of micro-finance grants for survivalist youth entrepreneurship and cooperative grants for greater participation of youth in the cooperative sector.
