Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the appointments of Mr. Dominic Barton, Ms. Monique F. Leroux, Mr. John Oliver, Ms. Susan Paish and Mr. Eugene Polistuk to the Advisory Committee on the Public Service. The appointments are effective immediately.

The Committee was established in November 2006 to provide an external perspective and expert advice to the Prime Minister and the Clerk of the Privy Council on the renewal and future development of the Public Service. It comprises nine eminent Canadians, all of whom are recognized leaders in their professions and in Canadian society.

“I am very pleased to welcome these distinguished and highly experienced individuals as new members of the Advisory Committee,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Their considerable expertise in a wide range of areas will help inform the Committee’s valuable recommendations.”

Other current members of the committee include the Honourable Paul Tellier (co-chair), the Honourable David Emerson (co-chair), as well as Ms. Donna Soble Kaufman and Mr. Peter MacKinnon.

The main objective of the Advisory Committee is to help ensure that the federal public service remains strong, dynamic and agile. The Public Service of Canada is a vital national institution, with public servants delivering programs and services to millions of Canadians in every region of the country and around the world.

The Prime Minister expressed his sincere appreciation to outgoing committee members the Honourable Aldéa Landry, Mr. Tony Comper, Mr. Jacques Gauthier, and Ms. Sheila Weatherill whose valuable contributions will continue to influence the transformation of the Public Service of Canada. He also took the opportunity to remember the late Mr. John MacNaughton and his many contributions to the Committee.
