Peruvian telecom regulator Osiptel has called on operators to clearly set out the conditions of newly-launched all-you-can-eat plans with a view to avoiding subsequent customers claims. In a statement Osiptel said it welcomed the new “unlimited” data plans offered by Entel, Movistar and Claro as evidence of the dynamic and competitive nature of the mobile sector but urged companies to ensure full transparency.

The regulator pointed out that Movistar’s new unlimited plans only apply in 4G coverage areas, with data bundles limited to a maximum of 10GB in 3G coverage areas in contrast to Entel and Claro, whose plans come with unlimited data in both 3G and 4G areas. However, Entel and Claro’s plans reduce browsing speeds after consumption of 32 to 33GB of data, said Osiptel.

Entel recently launched an “unlimited apps, minutes, gigas and SMS” plan for PEN 159 a month, with Movistar responding with similar all-you-can-eat plans for between PEN 149 and 199 a month and Claro offering a PEN 159 a month plan for residential and corporate customers.
