Pan-European Geo-information Portal Launched |

EuroGeographics , an association of European cadastre, land registry and national mapping authorities, launched an open data portal which enables users to access and download geo-information, contributed by 45 European countries and territories, free of charge.
The 1:1 million scale topographic dataset, called EuroGlobalMap, features six themes: administrative boundaries; names locations; transport networks; settlements; elevation; and the water network.
According to an official statement from EuroGeographics , the initiative is part of a wider package of new licensing agreements and lower pricing to enable more users to benefit from pan-European data.
“Geo-information is key. It provides a vital link among otherwise unconnected information and enables the use of location as the basis for searching, cross-referencing, analysing and understanding Europe-wide data,” said EuroGeographics’ President, Ingrid Vanden Berghe.
Furthermore, the portal can be used for cross-border planning, monitoring and network analysis as well as presenting environmental policies.
