FTTH subscribers in mainland France and the overseas territories rose by 265,000 in the three months to September to reach 2.92 million, according to the latest quarterly statistics from telecom regulator Arcep. The number of fixed broadband lines with a speed of at least 30 Mbps increased to 6.52 million, including FTTH, hybrid fibre-coaxial, VDSL and LTE-based connections marketed as fixed offers. Out of this total, 4.27 million were capable of a speed of at least 100 Mbps, up by 293,000 in the quarter.

The overall fixed broadband market increased by 2.9 percent year-on-year to 28.24 million connections at end-September, with 175,000 net additions in the third quarter.

The number of premises with access to FTTH services increased by 37 percent year-on-year to 9.5 million, of which 4.7 million were within high-density population areas, 3.7 million were in less densely populated locations, such as mid-size towns, and the remaining 1.1 million were reached by public-initiative networks, known as RIP ('Reseaux d'Initiative Publique').

For these three distinct geographical groups, the regulator has added to its quarterly report the share of premises covered by each operator, and has also launched a new online mapping tool (cartefibre.arcep.fr) displaying progress in FTTH availability at municipal level.
