BANGALORE: With the CET counselling for medical seats to start soon, Nagendra G of EN Trust India has demanded that the government open more colleges.

He told reporters on Thursday that despite the demand for the profession, there aren’t enough medical colleges in the country, as opposed to the ample number of engineering colleges.

He also criticised the government for making rural service mandatory for medical graduates. “Give them enough seats and there will be enough doctors. When there are so few seats for medical aspirants, what right does the government have to demand anything from them?” he asked.

Nagendra also requested that the government introduce online interactive counselling sessions to help students in remote areas. “Students in rural areas must be provided quality education. Because of language issues, many students fail in science. We need an integrated approach to help them,” he added.
