BANGKOK: Bangkok will seek Kuala Lumpur's cooperation in restoring peace in the nine-year southern Thai conflict when the prime ministers of both countries meet in Malaysia's Putrajaya on Thursday.
Thai premier Yingluck Shinawatra said on Wednesday the matter would be among the major issues, apart from trade and border, for discussion with her Malaysian counterpart, Najib Tun Razak, during her one-day visit.
"We will ask for cooperation, in terms of coordination from the Malaysian government," she told reporters on Wednesday. She did not elaborate.
Local newspaper Bangkok Post online news report on Wednesday quoted National Security Council Secretary-General Lt Gen Paradon Pattanathabutr as saying Malaysia would be asked to act as facilitator for talks between Thai authorities and members of the separatist movement in the three southern provinces.
He said the discussion between the two prime ministers would focus on cooperation between the two countries in an arrangement for the talks.
