ICT Projects of Citom, City Hall Bag Jesse Robredo Award for Excellence in IT

THE Cebu City Government received two awards in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) this year.

 

In the second year of its eGov Awards for local government units, also called as the Jesse Robredo Award for Excellence in Information Technology (IT) for Good Governance, the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) recognized Cebu City’s IT-related programs.

 

Cebu City got the top spot in the Best in eGov Business Empowerment (G2B) search for its “Cebu Traffic” project.

 

The City landed third place in the Best in eGov Customer Empowerment (G2C) award for its “Fix My Barangay” project.

 

NICP chairman Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said the award is in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

 

Incentives

She added that NICP supports the DILG’s campaign to give incentives and recognition to local government units (LGUs) that integrate ICT in good governance.

 

The NICP launched the eGov Awards last year with Local Government Secretary Jessie Robredo. With Robredo’s demise, NICP decided to rename the award after the DILG chief.

 

Programs of participating LGUs are judged based on criteria, which includes innovation, sustainability, relevance to the problem and the capacity to replicate the project.

 

The government to business empowerment category in the eGov Awards highlights local government ICT programs, which improve the business environment.

 

Cebu traffic is a program of City Traffic Operations Management (Citom).

 

Citom Executive Director Rafael Christopher Yap said the award recognizes two-year effort.

 

Potential

“This is a culmination of a lot of work, sweat and tears, and we are hoping that the project would be able to bring forward the potential of other LGUs as far as transportation is concern,” Yap said.

 

Sigue said the government to customer empowerment award recognizes LGUs that improve systems to help stakeholders.

 

Cebu City’s “Fix My Barangay” project is a Web-based system piloted in Barangays Luz and Basak San Nicolas.

 

The system allows the public to report common problems in their barangay, such as potholes and busted streetlamps. After getting the report, City Hall checks and addresses the problem.

 

Rama thanked the NICP for recognizing the City Government’s efforts and expressed hope that other LGUs would be able to replicate its best practices.
