MANILA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government said Monday that it is considering options to protect the websites of government agencies.
Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the government is keen on moving government websites using private web hosting service to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
A web hosting service is a type of internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the world wide web, provide data center space and internet connectivity.
Lacierda noted that government websites hosted by the DOST like those of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) and Official Gazette (OG) were spared during the hacking spree last year.
Malacanang, the presidential palace, made the statement following the hacking of the National Food Authority's (NFA) website on Monday by a group called Anonymous who was campaigning against the Cybercrime Law.
Oral arguments on the constitutionality of Republic Act 10175 or the anti-cybercrime law at the Supreme Court are scheduled for Jan. 15.
