TOKYO, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said here Friday that his country will continue to cooperate with Haiti.
Noda made the remark in a joint press conference with visiting Haitian President Michel Martelly, saying Japan will continue cooperation with the Caribbean country in the fields of public health and education.
The Japanese government also announced Friday that Japan will provide about 6.59 million U.S. dollars worth of food aid to the island country which was hit by a disastrous earthquake in 2010.
For his part, Martelly appreciated Japan for sending rescuers to Haiti in 2010 and said he wants to learn about Japan's reconstruction efforts after the catastrophic earthquake in March 2011.
After the meeting with Noda, Martelly also met with Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace.
Martelly arrived in Tokyo on Wednesday for a four-day visit in Japan. He is also scheduled to visit Japan's northeast areas affected by earthquake and tsunami.
