NCSI survey to monitor progress of Millennium Development Goals

MUSCAT — The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey to collect information to assess the situation of children and women in the Sultanate will begin on January 18 in all the governorates of the Sultanate. The National Centre of Statistics and Information (NCSI) will carry out the survey in collaboration with the UNICEF and continues until March 2014. Khalfan bin Abdullah al Ma’amari, Director of Information and identity at NCIS, told the Oman News Agency that the survey aims at providing up-to-date information to assess the situation of children and women, as well as to monitor the progress of the Millennium Development Goals, provide indicators to support the national development plan, in addition to improving databases and control systems and enhance technical expertise in designing, executing and analysing such database and systems, monitor the progress of education and equality of gender.

He added that the survey would cover a sample made of 6,400 Omani and expat families selected according to international standards and principles, adding that 50 women to participate in the survey using Tablet PCs for taking data from multiple survey forms, like forms for women and children under 5. He added that the survey stage started with the training of field workers in the updating stage, updating of the geographical information and data on building, housing, family, pilot survey and the field work. He urged the Omani and expat families that would be visited by surveyors to cooperate with them and facilitate their access to the requested data, adding that raising-awareness campaigns would be initiated shortly.
