The ISS was founded in 1991 as the Institute for Defence Policy by the current Executive Director, Dr Jakkie Cilliers, together with Mr PB Mertz. The Institute’s head office is in Pretoria, South Africa. Regional ISS offices are located in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dakar (Senegal) and Nairobi (Kenya).
The ISS’ Governance, Crime and Justice Division is hosting its 4th annual international conference entitled ‘National and International Perspectives on Crime Reduction and Criminal Justice’ from 21-22 August 2013 in Johannesburg.
The venue is a convenient location close to a range of accommodation and transport options, including the Gautrain.
Over the past three years the conference has been an excellent platform for researchers, academics, policy makers, practitioners and university students with an interest and passion for criminology and related disciplines to meet, network and share ideas and experiences. Relationships established during these conferences have resulted in productive working relationships spanning the globe and involving a range of crime and justice issues.
The conference provides an exciting opportunity to showcase current criminological and contiguous research as well as policy initiatives from across the world.
We look forward to welcoming participants and presenters from within and outside the African continent to share their research, innovative thinking and insights.
