Back to School at the Africa Forum on Business and Security (Conferences)
Start Date: Sep 13, 2012
End Date: Sep 14, 2012
Venue: LAICO Regency Hotel in Nairobi
Description: The link between education, economic growth and security will be the subject of discussion in a session at a major new business conference in Africa.

At the forthcoming Africa Forum on Business and Security, which will be held at the LAICO Regency Hotel in Nairobi on September 13th and 14th, 2012, Lieutenant General Andrew Graham, the former Director of the Royal Defence Academy of the United Kingdom and Brigadier General Marcel Chirwa of the African Peace Support Trainers Association will discuss the skills necessary to develop and secure successful economies. They will be joined by leading figures from the worlds of security, politics, education and employment in a session that will focus on the fundamental importance of basic skills, such as literacy and numeracy, as well as on security training for the private sector and the development of new skills for a digitised world.

One of the conference organisers, Dr Harold Elletson of the New Security Foundation, said:

“Education is vital for the security of African and global economies. Education, training and skills will be at the forefront of discussions at the Africa Forum on Business and Security. There is a very close connection between education and security. Education is one of the most important engines of economic growth. It is also an important part of the answer to many security problems.

“Education should have a central position in any discussion about future security concerns and our conference gives the subject the prominence it deserves. It provides an opportunity for anyone with an interest in training and education to discuss key issues with leading thinkers and decision makers.”
