The AVU Rector Dr. Bakary Diallo received the Award on May 9th at the OCWC annual conference in Bali Indonesia. “This is an important recognition as it shows that the AVU OER collection has high quality material quality meeting international standards,” Dr. Diallo said.
The Atomic Physics module was authored by Prof. Kiwanga from the Open University of Tanzania during the first phase of the AVU Multinational Project funded by the African Development Bank and it is part of the 219 modules released by the AVU on its portal as open educational resources (OERs).
The AVU OER Portal continues to receive global recognition. The portal was voted the “Most Progressive” resource in the Education-Portal.com People's Choice Awards in 2012 and was also recognized as the ''Best Emerging OCW Initiative'' in 2011.
The AVU OER portal attracted more than 1,500,000 users from 200 countries and between January 2011 and January 2013 which means that through AVU, Africa is contributing to global knowledge and is therefore not only a consumer of content from the 'North'.

The AVU is currently improving the existing collection, developing new resources in computer science, and making the OER@AVU portal more interactive and appealing to users.
