Dr. Tomasz Janowski of UNU-IIST presents Electronic Governance for Sustainable Development to DPADM Director Ms. Haiyan Qian and Staff.
In the lecture, Dr. Janowski introduced the concept of Electronic Governance for Sustainable Development (EGOV4SD) by systematically mapping Sustainable Development (SD) and Electronic Governance (EGOV) domains, and presented examples from around the world on how EGOV is being applied to advance the social, environmental, economic and transitional SD goals. He also explained the fundamental challenges in realizing the transition from EGOV to EGOV4SD and outlined an international research, development, monitoring and education agenda to address such challenges.
Ms. Haiyan Qian, the Director of DPADM thanked Dr. Janowski for the presentation, noting that the research findings of UNU-IIST were in line with the DPADM’s work in the context of the United Nations E-Government Survey 2012: E-Government for Sustainable Development. Ms. Qian and Mr. Janowski agreed to collaborate on: 1) strengthening the platform for the UN E-Government Survey by offering the data collected by DPADM for policy makers to be able to create benchmarking instruments that reflect local conditions and priorities, and 2) developing a government Chief Information Officer curriculum for UN Member States based on the joint research and practice carried out by DPADM and UNU-IIST.
