PRINCETON, N.J., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Americans said the Affordable Care Act as both President Obama's greatest achievement and greatest failure to date, a Gallup poll released Monday indicated.
On balance, 36 percent of Americans said the 2010 healthcare law was Obama's biggest failure while 22 percent said it was his greatest achievement five years into his presidency, results indicated.
Gallup polled Americans about what they thought were Obama's greatest achievements and biggest failures so far in a survey conducted Dec. 5-8.
The two achievements Americans mention most frequently after the healthcare law concerned Obama's ending the war in Iraq and bringing troops home, and the capture of Osama bin Laden, each drawing 7 percent, Gallup said.
Smaller percentages mention his stabilizing the economy and that he is the first black president.
Twenty-three percent of Americans say "nothing" when asked about Obama's greatest achievement, while 10 percent didn't provide an answer, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.
Besides the healthcare law, also known as Obamacare, Americans mention the president's inability to get along with Republicans and Congress (9 percent), his lack of communication (5 percent) and his lack of leadership (4 percent) as the biggest failures of his presidency so far. Smaller percentages mention his failure to pass immigration legislation, his inability to bring all troops home from overseas, jobs issues, and the economy.
Eight percent of Americans say Obama hasn't had a "biggest failure" while 7 percent didn't give an answer, Gallup said.
Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews with 1,031 adults. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
